Design and Invention: Mac Van Dam
NUNA Studio trials its “Wild and Circular" Living Lattice, with Grosvenor to help cities rewild and naturally manage water, while increasing the natural resilience of planting in Living Walls. Originally conceived as a research project at UCL, the product is being developed through the support of research grants and industry partnerships. The InnovationThe Living Lattice system features a patented hollow lattice geometry that maximises soil volume, root space, and water retention. Built primarily from expanded cork—an organic and carbon negative material made from the waste of the wine stopper industry—the system avoids the use of plastics often found in the Living Wall industry. Coupled with a recyclable, lightweight aluminium frame, the wall is modular and free from adhesives, making it biodegradable and/or reusable at the end of its lifecycle.

The system is made of modular parts that stack to create a screening system that can be used in exterior or interior settings. The system is visually porous allowing it to be used in front of windows or curtainwall systems. The modularity and bracketed fixing system makes the system intuitive and flexible. It can be imagined as a large-scale ventilated facade system or an alternative water downpipe, connected directly to rooftop rainwater collection. The system helps building owners meet sustainability targets such as BREEAM.&#38;nbsp; 

The system focuses on ruderal, low maintenance ecosystems and acts as a vertical SuDS, seeded with native wildflowers and perennials to promote biodiversity. Rainwater is collected via reservoirs distributed throughout the wall, slowly releasing moisture to the plants over several days, reducing strain on urban sewage systems and promoting ecological resilience. The system can hold up to 9L of rainwater per square metre.

What if a speaker had a body? Somewhere between a living animal and an architectural environment, the Robophone Ensemble seeks to bring together immaterial sound with figure and form, creating complex sensations for viewers, inviting them to be present and engaged with the space (and sound) around them.

Cosmobloom Silver is a home-sized, highly refined kinetic sculpture, which responds interactively to its audience. In sinusoidal motion it reflects light and colour while transitioning between states of closed and secure to open and vulnerable. The Cosmobloom is an atmospheric object initially designed as a stage set for the psychedelic rock band Crumb. The Cosmobloom is designed to move between states of closed and secure to open and vulnerable, mimicking the phenomena of a bloom, while moving light throughout the venue space. 

The Cosmbobloom was conceived as an object that creates "aura's" behind the performance on stage. Designed and made in the creative warehouses of Hackney Wick, London, this sculpture was crafted with wood and small amounts of mirrored arcylic. For the artists, this DIY workflow represents the potential for design objects and cultural creation to return to the agency of the community and local maker.

Vertical Grounds is a research project exploring the future of urban green infrastructure, integrated bio-materials, robotic extrusion and living architecture.
Inspired by the living bridges in northern India, Vertical Grounds creates a continuous network of hollow cork forms that are filled with fertile low-nutrient media, promoting the growth of healthy root networks and microbial networks. &#38;nbsp;
The system is envisioned as a porous and versatile architectural lattice, akin to Buckminster Fuller’s space frame constructions.&#38;nbsp;
This is not a wall, it is an explicit and additional ecological layer to the typical wall system, bringing new qualities to urban architecture.&#38;nbsp;

 These speakers were designed as figures in space, posing a balanced and expressive presence with the guests walking amongst them. They are designed with a filamentary and anatomical form-language, focusing on the needs of the omni-directional acoustics.&#38;nbsp;

		<description>“Dont tear me down” HouseComplete 2023Balsam Lake, Canada

Commisioned to design a house, the proposal asked to tear down a “bunky” cabin, to make room for a new home.&#38;nbsp;
Instead, we engaged in addaptive re-use, incorporating the 60 year old cabin within the design of the home. This proposal adds to the existing cabin while maintaining its interior entirely. 
Two large slopping roofs create canopies over simple box shapes. A central glass lobby connects the old and the new buildings. The addition points between two trees to a view of the lake.
