“Dont tear me down” House

Complete 2023
Balsam Lake, Canada

Commisioned to design a house, the proposal asked to tear down a “bunky” cabin, to make room for a new home.

Instead, we engaged in “addaptive re-use”, incorporating the 60 year old cabin within the design of the home. This proposal adds to the existing cabin while maintaining its interior entirely.

Two large slopping roofs create canopies over simple box shapes. A central glass lobby connects the old and the new buildings. The addition points between two trees to a view of the lake.
